Am I able to upgrade Safari from Mac Mini 10.5.8

Hello -

I bought a Mac mini in late Fall 2008. I have OS 10.5.8 Leopard- and I am in need of upgrading Safari to a new version, however am prompted to first upgrade my OS to OS X Yosemite. I don't believe my current OS version is compatible so I'm unable to upgrade to that version. Does anyone know if there is another way that I can still upgrade Safari or if I can upgrade to an interim OS that is not Yosemite (perhaps a later version of 10.5.8) that might suffice?

Or will I be required to pay to upgrade my current OS?

Thank you for your assistance.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.5), Mac Mini

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.

If it's a PowerPC Mac, it's already running the newest OS it can.

If it's a Core Duo Mac, clickhere, install the DVD, and run Software Update.

If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and once done, if desired, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.
