custom drums

Hi Guys,

How do I add custom drums where I can enter in the beats using the keyboard, including double kick drum stuff.

I tried creating a new Drummer track and deleting the region. Then, I tried to hit "record" on that track, but the button was disabled.

What should I do?

Garageband 10, on 2012 MBP dual i7, 8GB ram.

Please read up on the Drummer Track!

The Drummer Track is based on a drum pattern generator. Instead of recording you drum pattern, you are adjusting the parameters of a drum pattern generator (in the Drummer Editor), that automatically creates the drum groove. You cannot edit individual drum notes of that pattern, only the Parameters that create those notes.

You cannot swap out individual Drum Kit Pieces. For that you have to upgrade to Logic Pro X, where you have more control over the drum sets and the sounds.

Hope that helps

Edgar,

You answered something other than what I asked. You mentioned automated drums and that swapping out individual drum kit pieces is not possible. But what I really want to know is this:

How do I add custom drums where I can enter in the beats using the keyboard?

I found videos explaining how to do it on older garage band:

But I couldn't figure out how to do it in Garage Band 10.

Sorry, I you used the term "Drummer Track", which describes that special Track created by the Drummer icon in the New Track Dialog. That's why I though you are referring to that one.

léonie showed you already the procedure regarding your question: Create a Software Instrument Track and choose any of the Drum Kit Patches or Electronic Drum Kit Patches from he Library. Keep in mind that the same restriction applies here: You cannot swap out individual Drum Kit Pieces, for example, replace the Kick or the Snare. The Smart Controls Window provides the only adjustment you have for the currently loaded Kit.
