Time Machine Icon on Menu Bar?

The Time Machine icon on Menu Bar used to rotate when TM was actively backing up. I no longer see this. However, the Time Machine as shown in left sidebar of Finder does show this activity.

This is not a major concern... but is this a feature of recent updates to OS X?
