Q: boot camp does not recognize windows 10 iso

I am trying install a Windows 10 iso on bootcamp. However, when I attempt to create a bootable USB drive, I get the following error:

Your bootable USB Drive could not be created. Bootcamp only supports Windows 8 or later on this playroom. Please use an ISO file for Windows 8 or later installation.

Last time I looked, 10, was greater than 8. I'm running the Retina Macbook OS X 10.10.4. The iso is the developer preview, 64-bit.

any suggestions would be welcome.

MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Thanks for your answer. I'm losing hope. I will try what you said. Do I have to reset SMC and NVRAM before I start the bootcamp assistant ? Or when I reboot to start the win10 install ?

It is cleaner if you run SMC and NVRAM reset. What is the year/model of your Mac?

Your Mac should not need a Usb or any external storage for installation. It should use an internal partition called OSXRESERVED for an EFI installation of W8.1/W10.

Yes I know that. But when the Mac reboot the win 10 installer don't recognize any keyboard or trackpad nor my SSD, So I can't do anything. If I plug a USB mouse i can navigate through the menu but it won't detect my SSD so I have no other choice than quit the installer...

Can you use Brigadier ( https://github.com/timsutton/brigadier ) to download 6.0.6133. Here is an example.

Use the "-p" qualifier  and the Product Code 031-24514.

    MyName-rmbp:brigadier-master MyName$ ./brigadier -h

    Usage: brigadier [options]

    Options:

-h, --help            show this help message and exit

      -m MODEL, --model=MODEL

System model identifier to use (otherwise this

machine's model is used). This can be specified

multiple times to download multiple models in a single

                            run.

-i, --install         After the installer is downloaded, perform the install

automatically. Can be used on Windows only.

      -o OUTPUT_DIR, --output-dir=OUTPUT_DIR

Base path where the installer files will be extracted

into a folder named after the product, ie.

'BootCamp-041-1234'. Uses the current directory if

                            this option is omitted.

-k, --keep-files      Keep the files that were downloaded/extracted. Useful

only with the '--install' option on Windows.

      -p PRODUCT_ID, --product-id=PRODUCT_ID

Specify an exact product ID to download (ie.

'031-0787'), currently useful only for cases where a

model has multiple BootCamp ESDs available and is not

downloading the desired version according to the post

                            date.

    MyName-rMBP:brigadier-master MyName$ ./brigadier -m MacBook8,1 -o Bootcamp-MacBook8,1

Output directory Bootcamp-MacBook8,1 that was specified doesn't exist!

    MyName-rMBP:brigadier-master MyName$ mkdir Bootcamp-MacBook8.1

    MyName-rMBP:brigadier-master MyName$ ./brigadier -m MacBook8,1 -o Bootcamp-MacBook8.1

You can open the DMG, and check the Product Version. Do you still have OSXRESERVED partition or did you create a USB Installer via BC Assistant?

    The version is still 6.0.6136

But I don't know how to use the "-p" command. I downloaded brigadier command file via the website and opened it and it automatically detected wich macbook I was using and downloaded a file so maybe this is why I still have this version even with the new file.

I don't see any partition called OSXRESERVED in Disk Utility.app, and my bootcamp don't allow me to create a USB installer, the option is not here

I'm on Sierra & created my 64bit ISO directly from MS website using Chrome & got the same error message only difference in the wording was the number 10. It wouldn't recognize the image file for what it was, a 64bit. So I deleted that ISO file and went back using SAFARI & created a new ISO following the exact same steps at the exact same location, The Microsoft Media Creation Tool and this time it worked without a problem.
