Macbook Pro vs. iMac

I'm debating between two possible Mac purchases:

1) 15” MacBook Pro with Retina display, 2.8GHz Quad-core, 16GB SDRAM, 1TB Flash Storage, ~$3200

2) 27” iMac with Retina display, 4.0GHz Quad-core, 32GB SDRAM, 1TB Flash Storage, ~$3950

The main benefit of the Macbook Pro is the portability and the main benefit of the iMac is the better performance. My question is how much of a difference will the faster processor and increased memory actually make (i.e. will I even notice it). I primarily work in Stata with medium-sized datasets. The largest datasets I work with are ~3GB.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
