How do I save Word docs on my IMac to I Cloud?

If your Mac OS X version supports iCloud Drive you can create a folder on iCloud Drive and save the Word documents in the "File > Save as" dialog to that folder on iCloud Drive.

Is iCloud Drive visible in the Finder Sidebar? If not, Finder/Preferences/Sidebar and check iCloud Drive.
