How do I view my iPhoto library in Photos?

I was using my mom's laptop until I bought my own. So all of my photos were on her 2012 MacBook Pro using iPhotos. Well when I bought my 2015 MacBook Pro, I used Airdrop to transfer my iPhoto library from her computer to mine, but I can't open the photo library because I have a newer model and mine uses Photos. The pop up box says that if I just open the Photos app, the photos from the iPhoto library will be there, but they're not. How do I get my old pictures onto my new laptop?

Launch Photos with the Option key held down, click on Other Library, and choose the transferred one.

I tried that but when I went to select a different library there was no other library. when I clicked "Other Library..." at the bottom left corner of the box, it showed the iPhoto library but it was grayed out so that I couldn't click on it.
