All my contacts are gone but still somewhere hidden in backup

I have a problem with my iphone. All my contacts have been deleted from my phone and from my icloud account. It's the second time this happens and i didn't do anything to trigger this.

I downloaded a backup extracting software and opened the last backup made. (For some reason, all my older backups were also gone from itunes. So i had only the one that was made when i plugged my phone to the computer)

The backup extractor was able to see all the contacts. But for some reason if i restore my iphone from that backup, my contacts are still not showing.

Some help would be great as i am quite stuck.
