shutting down without prompt

barely 3 year old MacBook Pro and after the recent update it shuts down at 70% battery without prompted and won't turn back on until it's plugged in to charge. anyone have any solutions? is there something in the setting that needs adjusted or is it the update? Thank you in advance!
