Problem with Beats Powerbeats2 In-Ear Headphones skipping

I just purchased a Beats Powerbeats2 In-Ear Headphones to use when exercising (I have an iPhone 5s). It works beautifully indoors but the music skips irregularly but frequently whenever I am outdoors and running/gardening. Is there a way to avoid this?
