My boyfriend does not have a phone at the moment so he is using iMessaging from his Macbook. My iPhone is dead as of right now, so if he tries to send me an iMessage from his Macbook but my phone is off will I still receive the message when I turn my phone back on even if he has turned his Macbook off after sending it to my dead phone?

No. He'll get an alert that the message can't be delivered. If you want that kind of experience, use email.
