No. It probably will not work in India because Sprint is a CDMA network and you are trying to use the phone where no CDMA network exists.
You will possibly not be able to use this phone in India.
Cut your losses and sell it and buy a phone that you can use.
Check with Sprint about the unlock. Even though Sprint uses CDMA, the phone will work with other GSM carriers if it is unlocked.
Apple sells no such thing. The factory unlocked model iPhone 6 is A1586
The Sprint model is LOCKED and also A1586
Just because they are the same model doesn't make the Sprint phone unlocked because Sprint provisions them as locked.

Where did the OP mention iPhone 6 ?
True, but the same holds true Sprint models do not come unlocked.
Sprint model is
Model A1429
Unlocked model is A1428
Which are DIFFERENT
Sprint generally does not unlock phones and if they do they are unlocked for abroad use but not for USA use.

Which would be fine as India is not in the US.

If the phone is unlocked, the OP will certainly be able to use it in India. All iPhones since the iPhone 5 that work on CDMA networks will ALSO work on GSM networks if they are unlocked. I ask again, please stop posting this misinformation.
The only thing is he needs to get the phone unlocked, which means contacting Sprint. However in the US there is no legal obligation for them to unlock your phone if they do not want to. Many carriers require and or an account in good standing, a waiting period after purchase, all payments made on device or contract to be completed.
