Import to iTunes

Using garage band 10.1. Tried to "share" audio file to iTunes as an .mp3 file. But iTunes created a .m4a file. So i changed import setting in ITunes to use mp3 encoder. Tried to "share" from garage band again. But still imported to iTunes as .m4a file. What am i doing wrong? How do i get iTunes to create a .mp3 file from Garage band?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Hello LC4SCHAD,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If you specifically want an MP3 file of your GarageBand project, then you will need to share from GarageBand and Export Song to Disk. After exporting to a location on your computer, you can then import that MP3 to iTunes.

Export songs to disk - GarageBand Help

Import music and video already on your computer - iTunes Help

Take care.
