WiFi Disconnects; Conference Room displays

Is there any way to force the iPad to attempt WiFi reconnects? We have 4 devices, all of which serve as mounted conference room displays. Each are running iOS 8.4, and they (daily) disconnect from WiFi and do not reconnect automatically. We have cleared network settings, turned off blutooth, and etc. In each case, we have the Conference Room application running in guided access mode, to prevent people from using the iPads for nefarious purposes. We are completely baffled as to why the iPad is unable to reconnect to the WiFi when it loses its bearings. The IP is always retained. The reconnect is to leave guided access, pick the WiFi (strong signal, always) and then it reconnects. Is there something flawed in iOS causing this? We've heard of applications that require jailbreaking, and we don't want to pursue that if we don't have to...

--turn off blutooth -- tried it

--reboot everything -- tried it

-- run on new channel -- we have tried multiple WiFi networks, even those produced by Verizon MiFi cards

-- turn on 2.4 or 5.0 bands -- byproduct of trying all sorts of connections

-- new router -- n/a

-- wired -- is it even possible to connect this in a way that it gets wired internet plus charge simultaneously? If there is, we have LAN ports sitting behind the devices where the power is being supplied via a wall boxed USB power port.

There are more ideas in the million view thread, but I think you got the major ones.

All I know is here. You need to use apple connectors this author states. There is potential since the usb hub is powered.

"Here is the product list needed to get an iPad or iPhone connected to the internet using an ethernet cable. (Products are available via Macmall or Amazon) 1. Apple USB Ethernet Adapter 2. Powered Usb Hub (Needs to have a power adapter) 3. Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter"

You did hear about apple updating networking software in 10.10.4? Don't know if this wired connection would avoid the "wifi" problem or not. The feeling would be that it would because the problem doesn't occur in cellular mode internet.

more ideas...

Try the ios 9 beta.

Here is my never before published list of "fixes" extracted from the over million view thread. See link above.

This is mostly about 8.x

Start on page 92 of iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems and read about work-arounds.

Try a wired connection.
For what it is worth, there have been reports you can connect an lighting to a usb-camera-connection kit to a usb hub to a usb-to- ethernet connector to get an internet connection. see:
Re: How do I connect my iPad to the internet when only a wired connection is available? Thanks

Could try the iPad in a coffee shop or library.

Possible solutions. A lot of these revolve around making any communication change resets the software enough to make wifi work for awhile.

Here is the best description I have seen of the problem.

change DNS address to Google free DNS server. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

  • by Alicool.Rizwa. None of these were a permanent fix. Might work for awhile.
    1. forget and rejoin network.
    2. renew lease
    3. Restart my router
    4. Change my router
    5. Change the channal of my router
    6. restart iOS device.

    To Enable QoS:

    Go to your router settings,

Advanced -> Setup -> QoS -> Enable WMM

Enable both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz

  • Change what band your router uses. Many have found 2.4Ghz works best.

  • This set of solutions if for Mac OS X, but the underlying wifi software is the same on ios, so they may work too. http://www.iphonetopics.com/osx-yosemite-wifi-issues/

We're having this problem too, same sort of setup. Our devices constantly communicate with a web server (using socket.io). We'll have two devices in the same area drop off at exactly the same time, so I don't think it is device-related per-se. If I leave our iOS app (enterprise agreement) and return to it Wi-Fi reconnects. We're running 9.1 and 9.2, both behave the same way.

    Mar 24, 2016 4:52 PM in response to tim.demint

The exact same scenario for us as well.

"The reconnect is to leave guided access, pick the WiFi (strong signal, always) and then it reconnects."

Has anyone discovered a resolution for this yet? We have tried all of the iPad resets (forget network, renew lease, network reset, device reset) and the issue still persists. Apple support was of little to no help. We have read that previous IOS versions ran into dhcp renewal issues, but that those dhcp renewal issues occurred mainly while the device was in sleep mode, which we have disabled. We have yet to attempt to assign the devices as Static IPs on the network, as we cannot duplicate the issue at our headquarters and the devices having this issue are in a client setting. Could this be a potential source? We want to minimize trouble shooting before attempting to resolve it with the client remotely. Please tell us there is a fix for this. Thanks!
