Can't get video from PBS

I'd like to watch the video of a program I missed on PBS, but when I try to view it, I get this message.

The page “Bill Moyers . Video Clip . Preview of Moyers on America: The Net @ Risk | PBS” has content of MIME type “audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

This looks as if the content is configured to run on a Windows machine. Is there any way to make it work on my MacBook?

MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I searched the program, and it looks to only be available in Windows Media or RealPlayer formats. Thus, you'd need a plugin to decode one of those two format types... The official websites for either RealPlayer or Windows Media Player should be able to tell you more about getting one of those plugins for your browser---it depends on what you're using (Firefox, Safari, IE, etc...).

If it turns out that you can't get the plugin for some reason, you could also try saving the video to your computer and watching it through Quicktime or another media player. You can usually do this easily, by using the "Download Embedded" extension for Mozilla Firefox. Once you've downloaded the video (preferably in "Windows Media" format), you can play it in a media player such as MPlayer OS X, or you could use Quicktime with Perian installed to watch it.

Also, if you can just download it instead of watching it through your browser, you have the option of saving it to watch later if you want....

"Download Embedded" extension = https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1993/

Perian for Quicktime = http://sourceforge.net/projects/perian

Hello,

You don't have the player that you need to view the video.

The videos are in Real Audio format, and also available as Windows Media Player files.

So, you need to install one of the following players if you want to view the videos:

Real Player

Windows Media Player

Flip4Mac

All the above players will install and run on both Intel and PowerPC Macs. But, Windows Media Player will run in Rosetta on the Intel Macs and is no-longer supported by Microsoft.

But, they will all work.

Flip4Mac is a 3rd-party program that will enable Apple's QuickTime Player to play Windows Media Files.

Anyway, install one of the above (or all of them if you like), and you'll be able to view your videos just fine. Make sure you have your browsers closed when you install the players, and if asked, enable them to display content in your web browser.

Note that you should only need either Flip4Mac or Windows Media Player. The Flip4Mac plug-in will replace the Windows Media Player Plug-in in your web browser.

The Real Player plugin should also be sufficient for you.

I hope this helps.

That is strange.

It played with the Real Player plug-in on my system.

Go to:

Hard Drive --> Library --> Internet Plug-Ins

Look and see if you have a plug-in listed in there as:

RealPlayer Plugin.plugin

If not, that could be your problem.

Of course, you also have to close your browsers when installing plug-ins and you must re-start them if they were open.

Anyway, let me know if it's in there.
