I have a saved copy of Iphotos on my external hard drive.It is a large library. I recently upgraded my mac to Photos.I would like to access my Iphoto library on the external hard drive but keep it separate from the new Photos? How can I do this?

By using iPhoto to access it:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Thank you for the response. I have tried. When I choose a library I choose the one labelled(the external hard drive) ,I then selected use "this library" and it opens on Photos and there are no photos. I am 100% that the photos were on the external as we checked. Is it possible that it will simply take a long to load or that it is no longer compatible as it is photos on the computer and iPhoto on the external?
