after using in Target Disk mode

iMac 27" Late 2009, 2.66Ghz Intel i5, 8G mem, 1TB HD 696aval., OSX 10.10.4,

After using this system several weeks ago to save another iMac, this unit randomly reset itself.

In fact have never had it lock up or PinWheel while using it, just during or after leaving it to sleep.

so much so that i now turn it off every time i leave the system.

Sys Prefs set to "Never" sleep and 1 hour Display sleep

Only one user / Admin

no signs of malware, adware, or mackeeper...

Time Machine ON, 2TB Seagate Drive

System used mostly for Photo Software, NO GAMES

Have Run EtreCheck.app and NO obvious errors or failures

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), EpsonWF845, NikonD70, lotsofHD iPad

Please disconnect any external peripherals such as external HD's and then retest. If the issue disappears that points the finger at one of the external devices.

I do see Seagate software installed which can be problematic and I also see you have some Nikon app installed. Consider uninstalling it or at the very least ensure the Nikon app is compatible with Yosemite. Finally you also have Java installed, unless you have some mission critical app that relies on Java I would recommend uninstalling it too as Java is known to carry malware.
