Messages/(AIM) Screensharing failing to initiate on Yosemite 10.10.4

I'm hoping the illustrious User uploaded file sees this, because I'm not sure there's any other way we will ever find a resolution.

For nigh unto a decade I have used AIM screensharing (originally through the iChat app and now through Messages) to share & control screens remotely with colleagues. For the last few months it has been broken, and no sharing can be initiated in either direction. Web searches for error codes and messages yields nothing. iChat screen sharing is an extremely powerful tool for the way we work, putting many of the alternatives (skype, join.me, etc) to shame in its ease of use and availability for those running a Mac. It's also infuriatingly prone to hiccups, bugs, and problems, as anyone that's used it for as long as we have can attest. I consider that a testament to its goodness, as much as to its badness. 😉

If you're seeing this, Ralph, we are extremely keen to hear your thoughts on how we can begin troubleshooting. Below is a dump from the report that is sent to Apple every time we try (and fail). Thanks!

P.S. We have so far troubleshooted by doing the following:

- Dump the com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist

- Repair permissions (note this message is returned: "Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired."

- Turn Sharing on in System Prefs (I now understand this controls the APPLE/MESSAGES screensharing utility, but does not affect the AIM/JABBER side)

- Restarting Messages, rebooting, etc.

- Specifying ports on the Apple Time Capsule routers

- Attempted screensharing with other colleagues/parties with no luck

- Checked connection doctors, modified bandwidth limitations every way to sunday

Hi,

I have been looking at this as there are many threads across Yosemite, Mavericks and iChat (I look at these areas everyday most of the time).

The issue seems to be internet based - LAN connections works, the issue effects people in the United States, Holland, UK, France and Canada that I have seen.

The Apple Server called SNATMAP is used by iChat and Messages when making Buddy List A/V connections.

However LAN based ones work (Bonjour and from two computers using the same service such as AIM - I have tried Yosemite to iChat 5.0.3 in Snow Leopard).

Full on Internet connections seem to fail with the Log saying Error -1 in iChat and 1001 in Messages.

Normally this is A NAT issue or a Port issue.

However it can be linked to the SIP part of the connection not working (Session Initiation Protocol) which connects and negotiates the two computers to make the connection. (it then drops out of the connection).

Since I thought it might be this server - it is the only place iChat and Messages AIM and Jabber Chats have in common on the Internet I have only been able to get a response from it today. even then it dropped 3 out of 4 attempts in the Utility I was using.

Whilst testing this server and gaining more info would be useful that in itself will look like an Attack.

This will not help if the server is under attack.

I have posted in the Lounge (New Technical Issues) copying in several of the Threads and what my belief is.

Hopefully someone will get to look at it.

(I have not received a response from the first post 2 weeks ago though)
