Hi, my car has the ability to connect to the internet through my Iphone 6 pay monthly. The car pairs with the phone using bluetooth no problem, and making and receiving calls is fine. The issue comes when i try to connect to the internet. The message is 'Data communication is temporarily unavailable'

Hotspot is a way to provide WiFi capability using your cellular network. The iPhone takes the cellular data in and sends out WiFi.
Hotspot does not send out Bluetooth.
So it sounds like you need to use some WiFi method to connect your car to the iPhone. Indeed some cars can do this. Check your car's manual.

The WiFi generated by your iPhone's hotspot is definitely encrypted. A password would have to be entered into your Mercedes to see the WiFi.
My personal hotspot lists Bluetooth as a means to connect, does yours not show this?
When you were connecting to your car did you follow the directions when you turned on the hotspot and did your car let you enter a separate password? Have you checked with Mercedes to be sure your car is equipped to do this?

I worded my response quite incorrectly to the OP. I'm thinking the Mercedes requires WiFi to connect to the internet. I was wrong to say that hotspot does not send out Bluetooth.
