iTunes Store - Can system notify me when new books come out?
Does iTunes have the ability to keep a list of authors i like and notify me when an audiobook or new book comes out by an author i like?

You can set up notifications. Do a search for the author and on the results page click on their name on the right-hand side of the screen :
And on the next screen click on the share icon (the square with the upward pointing arrow) top right :
And on the popup there should be an 'alert me' option.
