Photos not syncing pictures with iPhone or iPad

Recently I've noticed that the photos app on my iMac just doesn't seem to be communicating with my iPhone or my iPad. I have it set so that all pictures are synced including videos. I've imported the pictures from both my iPhone and my iPad to my iMac ie. the Photos app, but when it comes to syncing them back into the iPhone and iPad using iTunes, it just doesn't happen. I have pictures that synced successfully from as back as July 13th, but nothing after that on both devices... did something happen? Am I missing something here?
