HD vs. Admin

I'm a new mac user and I was wondering what the difference was between the Macintosh HD and admin. I know admin is a user of the computer and stores stuff on the HD but why is there music, pictures, documents, etc...in both places?? I keep losing my files because I save one in the HD documents folder one time and then in the admin documents folder the next....I'm just a little confused.

Every user of the system has their own Home folder, which contains their own Documents, Movies, Pictures, Applications, etc...

If you log in as the user 'admin', you will see admin's Documents, Pictures, Music...
As an example, admin's Documents folder might be located at /Users/admin/Documents on your hard drive.

If you log in as some other user, you'll see their folders.
If you log in as user 'Adam', you'll see the folders located at /Users/Adam

Make a little more sense? I know it can be daunting to understand the Unix filesystem if you've never worked with it before.
