why can't I change media type from music to an audio book any more?

I used to do this a lot a few years ago, now it seems like Apple is broken iTunes. I just purchased an album. It really should be an audio book. In the past I have been able to change the media type to Audio Book and be done with it... now iTunes 12 is broken doesn't give me any additional options other than "music". I have even tried to remove the "songs" (aka .m4a) from my iTunes Library, renamed the files .m4b and imported the now audio books back into my library. Unfortunately iTunes isn't falling for the trick any more. It's quite frustrating that I can't organize "my library" as I wish to do. Help!

Working OK for me (iTunes 12.2.1, Windows 10 Pro 32-bit). Issues with updating metadata are often the result of your media files being read-only, or Windows permissions preventing files being modified.

I have complete rights to the files and I double checked the properties and the read only check box is not checked... Here is a print screen showing that I only have one available selection for this file. It's quite frustrating.

Just to be sure see Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows. It is not just your account that needs full permissions. System should have it too. iTunes seems to use one account for some tasks, and the other for others.

I can change aloose everything ... Everything that I have tried any way with one exception, there is only one media type available when I drop down the selection. if you look at the screen shot, you will see that audio books is not even available. The system and I bith have rights to these files.

Do you have either iTunes Match or iCloud Music Library enabled? The last one is the most likely explanation. In a test library here I get the same inability to change media kind.
