Is re-writing supported on a super drive?
I have a 2014 Mac Mini and Super Drive. I am super disappointed that I am not able to re-write to a DVD RW. Is re-writing supported?

Yes, it should be supported. You must first erase the DVD-RW before you can re-write to it.
Is the quickie erase good enough, or do I need the mega option that claims could take an hour?
Also I am using a DVD+RW, if I can find any, are the -RW better?
I will try the "completely" erase option.
The type of disc you use is, I think, more dependent upon what the target reader can use. Disk Utility will write to either. I don't know which might be preferred, but it seems to me it was -RW.
A quick erase just removes and resets the directory. I think you need to do the full erase in order to re-use the disc. i suggest you open Disk Utility or whatever you are using and look at the Help menu for more information. Also, see OS X Mavericks- Burn a CD or DVD in the Finder.
I did the complete format and burnt one file. The burning utility still closes out the whole disc.
FAIL :-( I think I need a 3rd party burning software..
Disk Utility cannot create a multi-session DVD, but it does for CDs. With a DVD you cannot simply add or delete files like on a regular HDD. There are one or two third-party utilities that supposedly implement that, but they are not free. Look for them at MacUpdate.
