iBooks cannot open any file on the shelf.

I have been using iBooks for years on my iPad2. A few days ago, it went wrong all of a sudden. Touching any file, it dos not respond. Deleting files work but I cannot run any, be it an epub or a pdf. Do I have to install the ibooks again? Then do I loose all my files?
