I can only see iMessages I've sent not the ones I receive

I have tried syncing my messages from my iPhone to my mac and it will only show the messages I send and not the ones I receive. I have tried going into send&receive and I have both my phone number and email address checked off. I also have gone to text message forwarding and selected my mac and entered the code. It does not give my a code when I try to select my iPhone. I could really use some help, anyone know what to do?
