I'm trying to restore my printer settings for an HP Officejet 6500A. I have a MacBook Air, 4 gig memory, 64 gig storage. I go to Printers and Scanners but the printer does not appear. I tried to go to HP web site for driver download, but it indicates that the appropriate software should already be a part of the OS, Yosemite, 10.10.4

I tried this. Nothing shows up under Printers & Scanners. No updates available.
Finally, after two days of trying to add the printer under Printers and Scanners, my printer appeared. I'm not sure why. The last thing I did prior to seeing the printer populate was to turn off and turn on wi-fi and select the 2.4 SSID. Why the printer populated the Printers and Scanners window, I have no idea. Very frustrating and, for me, not at all intuitive.
Why doesn't my HP Officejet show up under Printers and Scanners?
