HDMI Audio not working

I set up my Apple TV months ago with an HDMI to the TV for video and an optical cable to my surround sound stereo for sound.

Sometimes I want to use audio through the TV only but no sound coming through the HDMI.

I have tried playing with all the audio settings, unplugged the optical cable, restarted, and reset. All with no luck!

Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
