Reinstallation Crashes

Bought a used Mac book Pro 15" from mod 2009 and to clear the computer I attempt to reinstall osx/Yosemity. However, after downloading for three hours the installation process halts and nothing further happens... Even after 9 hours waiting time. Any solutions for a complete and clean reinstallation of the used Mac book Pro?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), 15" mid 2009

Since this MBP is new to you, you really should erase the HDD and install the original OSX (Leopard or Snow leopard). This will allow you to set up your Apple ID and allow to determine if there are any problems with the MBP. Then you can update it to 10.6.8 and proceed to install Yosemite.

Ciao.
