alarm app - truncated sound

The default ios alarm clock app has stopped functioning.

- The alarm is triggered at the correct time

- The sound is audible

- The sound only lasts 1/2 a second, does not play the full duration

- The alarm app is still displayed on the screen per usual, just with no sound

I've removed all alarms and recreated. I've turned on/off the "snooze" option. I've tried repeat alarms and single instance alarms.

It's unfortunate that Apple does not give the ability to delete/reinstall their apps. And there are no settings controls for the alarm app. Apple support suggested I "reset all settings" -- which I have not done yet because it's annoying and a terrible fix.

Any ideas?
