Have just gotten os x yosemite, cannot get it to crop photos - what am I missing?

Trying to get Yosemite ti crop to 4x6. How do I get into that? The editing is largely obscured in the system

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

You don't use the OS itself - you use an app such as Preview or Photos (or iPhoto) or any third party app you'd like. The first two are in your applications folder.
