Ipad 2 Mirroring on TV Issues

I have an iPad2 that I wanted to mirror on my tv. I went and bought the Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter plugged everything in and all my tv is showing is the music note like pictured on the tv screen. Any ideas what the problem is? I have checked the HDMI cord, the 30 pin plug to my ipad and the input on the tv. Thanks in advance for your help!
