bootcamp support software which version for early 2009 macbook?

I have an early 2009 Macbook w/ Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, nVidia 9400M display, 4Gb DDR2. Tried to use bootcamp to install windows but I got stuck at bootcamp claiming that there's error saving the bootcamp windows support software. So I intend to go thru the manual software installation route: I searched around and there seems to be two version: 5.1. 5621 or 5.1.5640.

Both webpages do not list my model and I'm suspecting that might be the problem causing the above error. In any case, can someone tell me whether I should go with 5621 or 5640?

You should use System requirements to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support and this part specifically based on your OS choice.

Tx Loner T. Actually based on the table, I think I should be using '4', which references to version 4.0.4326 of the Bootcamp support software right?

This Boot Camp Support Software 4.0.4326 does not support your MacBook 2009.

Tx again Loner T. Not sure how I got to version 4326 but I just learned it hard way that it doesn't work! Window7 installation cannot find the driver to recognize the bootcamp partition! Now I'm stuck in a limbo state where I can't even get back in to OS X!!! Scrambling for another PC 2 downloads ad 4033 now!

Please describe the environment and how you are installing Windows. Where did the installer media come from?

Sure. It's early 2009 MacBook white. Core 2 duo 2Ghz, 4Gb ddr2, 120Gb SSD. Installing win7 from original installation DVD. (Not upgrade).

it's yosemite. I think it's 10.10.4 but I can't get into os x 2 verify now.

and check if you can get into OS X? The Windows installer/BCA can leave the NVRAM in a state that can cause confusion.

Ok looks like I managed to get windows7 to install. However, two problems remain:

1: Everytime I restart the macbook, it will boot into win7 by default. I had to press the option button during boot to get to the boot menu. I recalled I used to be able to set it to directly boot into OS X instead. Where can I change this setting pls?

2: According to device manager in win7, I still have two un-installed devices: the USB blue tooth adaptor and one unknown device. I point the device installation software to both 4033 and 4326 but no luck. Any idea?

1. Do you have Control Panel -> System -> Boot Camp? If you do not, the BC drivers need to be installed. Once installed you can use Boot Camp: Set the default operating system .

2. If you do not have the Boot Camp Control Panel then run the following two procedures

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

and test.

Can you post a screen shot of the Device Manager and expand the devices which do not have drivers installed? Here is an example.

Loner T, thanks again for the help. I re-installed bootcamp software 4.0.4033 and this time things are working well. I have no unknown devices anymore and was able to select OS X as default OS upon boot. So knock on wood, I think I'm good now. Your help is much appreciated!

Please backup OSX an Windows and run Windows Update, but do not update any drivers via Windows Update. I also suggest you create a System Restore Point.

Oooops I let windows do the updates overnight & apparently all updates are installed. Having said that I checked out a few of the apple devices & look like they are still using drivers dated sometimes ago & published by Apple. The only exception I noticed so far is the onboard GeForce 9400m, driver dated 2013 published by nVivia. let's see! Tx anyway.

You may still be fine. The nVidia drivers are much more stable than some of the competition.
