I have a new Windows PC and need to move my iPad 2 there

My old system crashed totally, The hard drive is toast as was the processor board (lightning messed it up bad) and I got a new system. However the iTunes that I downloaded and installed threatens to wipe out my iPad if I try to sync the two. How do I get the two to sync without loosing everything. I can't believe Apple would do something so Anti-Customer support to people. It is making me look real hard at other options.
