Q: "Hey Siri" does NOT work. Am I alone?

I love my Apple Watch but the "Hey Siri" feature is a joke. It is embarrassing to be out and about and saying "Hey Siri" over and over, in different inflections and volumes and tones, and it only works 1 in 200 times... so bad, they ought to just drop the "feature." And yes, it is turned on in Settings.

Am I alone in this not working? I ALWAYS have to push the Crown in to get Siri's attention.

Since there do not appear to be a deluge of concerns similar to yours, perhaps your Watch is simply defective. The occasional nonresponsiveness to touch is not normal either, and not something anyone should tolerate. Did you contact AppleCare? Be sure to use the Contact Us link below.

And is your iPhone plugged into power when you try to use Hey Siri?

Wow, leave for a day and this thread goes nuts.

While I may be the only one in this thread so far - I am not actually alone. I know only 3 people personally with Watches and all three have this issue, so I was wanting to see if it is broader. One is in Iowa, another in Indiana and the 3rd near me in Colorado - so it's isn't a local network issue. When we have met at conferences, we have all demonstrated and joked about how it doesn't work all trying different volumbes, pitches, inflections, etc. TRYING to get "Hey Siri" to respond.

    Yes, it is turned on.

Yes, we have restarted our Watches, both hard and soft resets.

Yes, we have stood on one leg and put tin foil on our heads. (ok, not really)

I have tried both the Hey Siri and wait for the cool little colory waves to appear and just giving the entire command, "Hey Siri, directions to McDonald's" or whatever.

I will be taking it into Apple Store for their consideration - but wanted to bring with me some support for the issue if possible. Apple is awesome, they stand behind their products and I have no doubt if defective I'll get a new Watch, just wondering if there was a combination of some other settings that could be at play.

I appreciate everyone's input.  Just REALLY wish I could use that feature, as the "not pull your iphone out hands free" nature of the Watch is its main attraction.

    Hi Karl

Try also unpairing and re-pairing your watch and iPhone, restoring your watch from the iPhone backup when offered the option during set up:

Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support

Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

    You're welcome

No host Mac needed - just needs your iPhone to be connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.

Full restore / repair and still NOTHING when you say "hey Siri" - so frustrated. Looks like it will be an Apple store visit. Where I'm visiting, the closest store is 3 hours away so have to wait until I get home, but no luck for my friend here with same issue, he has to drive 3 hours for Apple Store. You should hear us in this office trying to say "Hey Siri" 5,000 different ways. ONCE my Watch responded to him from across the room... but that was just once.

My partner and I both have Apple watches and the 'Hey siri' feature works fine, usually first time.  It is a source of great amusement to others in my local pub when I start talking to my watch.  They (wrongly) assume I've had one too many.  Then they start asking siri questions and it generally works for them.

Could you walk us through the process you're trying to get Siri to work?
I'm sure you're doing this right, but I noticed you haven't mentioned that you first wake the watch by raising it so he clock face appears, and then say 'hey Siri'.

I find "Hey Siri'" only works after waking the watch up. If I interact with the watch, such as going to the app screen or opening an app, it won't work (as it shouldn't) only after letting the watch sleep, then wake, I can invoke Siri, from anywhere on the watch. I can then carry on to say 'Hey Siri' without having to let the watch sleep and wake again.

the closest store is 3 hours away

In those circumstances, and when required, AppleCare will send you a shipping label and box to ship the Watch to them for repair or replacement.

Perhaps you should get a second opinion

Nope ! The function on the apple watch works (or should work) without the phone or

watch being on charge (mine does, my iphone 6 is not on charge and i just got it to work)

However, some of the time I also struggle to get "hey siri" to work.

To get round constant battery drain, the mic is only probably on for a few seconds

and if theres something else in the background running ....

v1.0 software, it will take a few momths to get the kinks out

    remember the first iphone

I don't think anyone said the Watch has to be on the charger but the iPhone does have to be connected to a charger in order for Hey Siri to work. Mine works every time on my watch if it is awake.
