Q: "Hey Siri" does NOT work. Am I alone?

I love my Apple Watch but the "Hey Siri" feature is a joke. It is embarrassing to be out and about and saying "Hey Siri" over and over, in different inflections and volumes and tones, and it only works 1 in 200 times... so bad, they ought to just drop the "feature." And yes, it is turned on in Settings.

Am I alone in this not working? I ALWAYS have to push the Crown in to get Siri's attention.

I agree, ScottieWil, patience with new device... that's why I wasn't really complaining, just seeing if anyone besides the friends I know in person have this issue.

In response to , thanks - that has helped. I assumed I was trying after waking up - but after being more intentional about it, I've seen great improvement. I was with my friend with his Watch and while I could get a response now half the time, he never could.

I am learning that you must be in a quiet place, wake and say it within a few secs and then say it clearly and somewhat loudly (which can be a little fun when others turn to see you talking to your Watch)

And, yes, the "iPhone must be plugged in" was in reference to the poster who brought up "Hey Siri" on an iPhone - not that an iPhone had to be plugged in for Watch feature to work. But I think most got that.

Appreciate the input everyone. I'll live with my improved performance and look forward to OS 2.0!

FYI, I now have the problem as well. "Hey Siri" used to work (though missed sometimes) but now is not working at all for me. I am running the 2.0 beta so this may be an issue. It will still work when pushing the crown and my mic is working properly. I suspect it's a software issue and not a hardware one, but if it continues I'll report it to Apple. Unfortunately my nearest store is about 1.5 hour drive a way so not too practical.

I should have warned about the 2.0 Watch Beta - one of my friends got access to it and his "Hey Siri" broke too. (he was trying to see if it improved with the 2.0, ironically) Same, it works if you push crown.

And he told me there is no way to go back to 1.0, which is why I didn't try the update.

If you are Beta testing you should report it to Apple now, not wait through your reporting app. Don't bother going to the Apple Store they will not be able to help you. Just a reminder, when you joined the Beta program you entered into a non-disclosure agreement to not discuss the beta software or that you are testing it in public. This is a public forum.

what does * crickets * mean? And why did you mark solved? It's still an issue Apple needs to address.

He didn't mark it solved you did.

Have you called AppleCare? Have you had Apple service your Watch? Without that Apple cannot address your issue. I'm still not having problems with Hey, Siri so it isn't an across the board bug that everyone is having.

Not sure how I marked it solved, if I did, it was an error. I would change it if I could.

Never claimed it was an "across the board" issue - but I know of five people who have the issue, not counting those in this thread.

Apple Store gave lame excuse about "must have something to do with combination of ambient noise in the room, strength of Internet signal and other factors" My guess, they don't want to admit it publicly, but I'm optimistic it will improve... perhaps the fact that it got worse in the Beta 2.0 will mean it will gets some tweaks to improve it.

Overall, I am EXTREMELY happy with the Watch, this is the only thing that isn't working up to snuff.

No. The iPhone DOES NOT have to be connected to a charger for Hey Siri to work. If you think about it that would be completely pointless and mean that Siri is only any good near a power supply where it would be easier to answer a question using your iPhone or a computer.

I have found that Hey Siri works most of the time BUT it must follow a wrist raise which turns the display on and it MUST be said immediately after the wrist is raised. Like most voice recognition type software it is not perfect and I guess that ambient sound levels, voice volume, etc. may affect how well the watch responds.

It's no different to the voice recognition on my satnav. Most of the time saying "voice command" works OK but car audio, traffic, road noise are all heard by the mic as well and affect the result. Also the satnav voice works much better for me than it does for my wife so the individual voice makes a difference.

The bottom line is that none of this is a big deal as, assuming you have two hands, its no effort to just press the side button to activate Siri,

Make sure you indicate that you are speaking of the Apple Watch. This thread has gotten a little confusing, as some individuals are speaking of the watch, and some about the iPhone. The iPhone does need to be connected to power for Hey Siri to work on the phone. This statement is separate from the Apple Watch. Just for clarification purposes.
