Servers EnterpriseAs mentioned by Niel all Macs for the last few years don't need a cross-over cable, this is because they can automatically sense if one is needed and do it internally.
Apple provide a free utility for migrating data from Windows to a Mac, see About Windows Migration Assistant - Apple Support and Windows Migration Assistant v1.0.5.7

cable (of suitable modern quality) should be adequate for both ends of the connection.
However if the old computer has at least USB1.1 it probably has standard Ethernet;
unless it only has USB due to an upgrade card or bus arrangement in a tower model.
The standard configuration 'features' on a computer's logic board can date them.
