Support for 2010 MBP 13" AirPlay Sound Mirroring

Is there a reason why I cannot mirror my Mac's sound to an AirPlay compatible speaker through System Preferences > Sound?

I'm having trouble using the AirPlay in iTunes with it because my speaker doesn't natively support the codec used for Apple Music streams, and would rather go by System Preferences > Sound.

I have a 2010 13" MacBook Pro running the OS X 10.11 Public Beta.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Other OS, OS X 10.11
