Ipod 4th generation stuck on dead battery/charging screen??

So I went away for the weekend, powered off my ipod and brought it with me. I get back home two days later and it's dead. I plug it into the wall and let it charge all night. The screen was still on the dead battery/charging screen, so I plugged the ipod into my computer to charge all day. Still no change. I have tried to reset it multiple times and every time I do the screen flashes white for a second then goes back to the dead battery/charging screen. Any ideas what might be wrong??
