To clarify and expand: Apple Pay doesn't send electronic receipts. It has strong privacy measures built-in, including:
- when you pay in stores, Apple doesn't collect any transaction information that can be tied back to you (if Location Services are turned on, it may receive limited anonymous data).
- when you pay within apps, Apple Pay keeps only anonymous information (and not even exact purchase amounts).
So just like with credit and debit cards, merchants issue the receipts.

In respect of the issuance of receipts, paying with Apple Pay is just like paying with a debit or credit card.
A retailer may provide you with a receipt as a matter of course. If not, you can always ask for one.
Thanks for that Jonathan, I should have been more specific. I meant an electronic receipt, for instance, I can now pay for petrol at Shell garages using my iPhone and PayPal. I receive an e.mail from both Shell and PayPal to confirm this.
Hi Tom
That is again up the retailer.
For payments made via iPhone, you can see recent Apple Pay transactions in Passbook.
HI Jonathan, I just tried it and it works as you said.
