My 2006 Intel iMac says it is connected to WiFi, but I can't browse to any website using any browser.

I have several Apple devices of various ages running in my household. The oldest is a 2006 iMac Intel that is running OSX 10.4.11. Recently, it began having problems connecting to the internet. The WiFi signal to the computer is strong, and Airport says it is on. Unfortunately, I can't browse to any website using Safari or Firefox. When I go to network settings, I get the warning that settings have been changed by another application. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

"A Fix for "Your network preferences have been changed by another application" Error

In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the following plist files:

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

NetworkInterfaces.plist

preferences.plist

com.apple.nat.plist

Restart your computer.

**NOTE:** You will probably need to re-configure all your network settings since deleting will create new non corrupted plist files. Strongly suggest that make note of your current network settings prior to doing the above.

Try the basics first:

Change your router channel number. Most times this works & is all you have to do.


Disconnect & reconnect your modem. unplug it for about 10 seconds. Plug it back in. Do the same for Apple’s routers. Wait for everything to reboot.


System Preferences>Network

Click the Assist Me button.

In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary. Report back the results.
