Installation of Yosemite has blocked access to iPhoto and pics transferred to Photo have messed up my albums
See the user top from Barney Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store
iPhoto works fine - you do need the current version 9.6.1 - if you do not keep your Mac up to date see Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store
And as to messing up albums - maybe if you gave some details we could help - we can not help with totally abstract unexplained posts - Albums transfer without change from iPhoto to Photos so to help you with what you did wrong we need to know what you did, what you have and what exactly happened
