Logic Pro X bug, screen looks like the program has a virus or something

Ever since I updated my OSX from 10.8.3 (or 10.8.4) to 10.8.5 Logic Pro X has been doing this weird stuff as shown in pics below.

I've tried trashing Logic Pro X and reinstalling but still same problem.

Any ideas??User uploaded fileUser uploaded fileUser uploaded fileUser uploaded file

Try deleting Logic's Preferences.....

To delete the user preferences, do the following:

You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

  1. Quit Logic Pro X
  2. In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
  3. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
  4. Press the Go button.
  5. Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this.
  6. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
  7. Restart the computer.

Note: If you cannot find any of the files listed above, you didn’t follow the instructions correctly! 🙂

If that doesnt fix things then try running Etrecheck...

http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

..and look through it's report to see if there is anything installed that shouldn't be.. or doesn't need to be, on your Mac...

If you need help with reading through the Etrecheck report.. post it up here and I'll take a look/see for you...

Failing that, roll back to your previous OS X configuration via your backups... and see if that resolves things

If it doesn't then its likely you have some kind of driver/system file corruption going on.... and you may need to try reinstalling everything including OS X from scratch..

Note: It is also possible, your Mac may have a hardware issue... Memory or Graphics related, seems to be the most likely culprits.. but try all of the above first to eliminate almost everything else from the equation.

Anything I can do? should i delete all those adware things?

Yes..

1) I would suggest you download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware utility which now includes the excellent Adware Medic software...

http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

That should clean up most of the adware etc from your system...

2) You have Pro Tools installed on your system and that has been crashing frequently from the log report..... These crashes could easily be related to the issue you are having with Logic... be it something else that is causing these crashes or be it PT itself... Personally, I won't install anything PT related on my main system drive (where I have Logic installed) because of the various issues that have gone on with Avid/Digidesign related drivers and software over the years...

If I needed to use PT then I would make a second bootable external hard drive and install PT and its various drivers on that instead and boot to that drive when I wished to use PT, leaving my main system drive clean to run Logic on....

3) You have a bunch of other apps etc running in the background of your Mac... such as MacVeXe which is a well know freeware MP3 player and also considered nasty malware at the same time... and TuneUpMyMac which is a waste of time imho.. and often does more harm than good.. (as do most of the 'system tweaking/speed up/clean up' type apps out there..)

and finally...

4) With all due respect... but you are using Professional level software on a professional level computer and yet you are using that Mac in a very non professional manner... installing / running all kinds of stuff without apparent care or attention... and you wonder why you are having issues?

Again, please take that last comment in the true spirit it is intended... and take whats going on as a major wake up call....

You may need to wipe out your system drive and start again from scratch to fully cure all these various issues... and if so, then pull the trigger and do it... but also, learn from this and try to curb the things you did in the past, that likely caused all these types of problems so you can relax and make music without any of these hassles and frustrations.

Cheers..

Nigel
