Q: Stuck on Apple Logo on Reboot (Sometime flickers prohibitory sign)
Recently, on startup, my computer has been stuck on the grey apple logo after I input my password. There is no progress bar at the bottom. I've also noticed that the screen where I enter my password is now a light gray (almost) white BG (not the dark BG that I'm used to seeing).
The only way I can boot from my HD is by pressing option while powering up. From here, my recovery disk isn't showing and I only have one option, my HD. After I select the HD it prompts the same login screen (light grey/white BG) and after entering password a progress bar slowly fills up taking nearly 5 minutes to start up. Additionally, I experience random restarts while loading programs.
I've tried:
- pram restart (option+cmd+p+r at startup)
- chimes twice, I'll log in and same thing happens. Stuck on Apple logo.
- safe mode (shift at startup)
- Does nothing.
- verbose mode (cmd+v at startup)
- Does nothing. Black screen flashes and same issue with being stuck on Apple logo.
- Repair Disk Permissions
- 1st run: Found several errors.
- 2nd run: No errors found.
- Verify Disk Permissions.
- No errors found.
From what I've read, it looks like a combination of recurring kernel panics and a corrupted OS. I'm thinking that I'll have to do a complete reinstall of the OS, but before I perform this and spend days installing all of my software again, I wanted to see if there was anyone out there that could help with a solution. I would hate to resort to a reinstall...
