Q: pictures from mac to iPhone

After I download my pictures to my mac from a memory card, how do I get them to my iPhone 6S through photo stream? Pictures I take on my iPhone automatically appear on my Mac. But pictures I download from other devices don't appear on my iPad or iPhone.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

    See the quote below from My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support  If pictures newly imported to your Mac (iPhoto or Aperture) aren't automatically uploading when you connect to wi-fi or ethernet, check your Preferences to see if they are set for manual upload.

    Photos that you take on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch will automatically upload to My Photo Stream when you leave the Camera app and connect to Wi-Fi. And new photos that you import on your Mac to iPhoto or Aperture automatically upload when you connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet. You can change your iPhoto or Aperture preferences so that only photos you manually add to My Photo Stream upload.
