itunes freezing when conneting with iphone, since windows10 upgrade

I upgraded my laptop to windows 10 and now itunes is freezing when i plug in my iphone 5c. its fine when i unplug the phone.

I cant sync my phone, which coincidentally is acting nuts too. I want to back up the phone so I can re-set in the hope of solving the phone issue.

any suggestions?
