Q: Keeping Family Sharing on 2 Apple IDs

My ex and I have Family Sharing under 1 Apple ID primarily to manage our kids' schedules & calendars.  I want to create my own Apple ID to separate our information but still retain access to the calendars.  How can I do this?  And will I lose any content on my phone that was associated with my ex's Apple ID?
