Half of mail rules set up on previous system have disappeared on upgrade

Enter your backup and go to a Snow Leopard backup, the User/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.
Hi Eric,
Thank you for your suggestion. I actually got the number wrong; it should have been 10.9.5 [Maverick] However I found the plist in users/ library/ mail/ V2/ mail data. I then went back a couple of months in time machine and found the earlier plist with all the rules. I have tried restore and also drag and drop into today's file but without restoring rules. I don't fully understand the procedure. Any further advice?
