Safari very slow to complete some web page loading

safari will hang up loading some websites. Does a partial load then halts for up to a minute before either the fully loaded indicate or activating some of the operating buttons/links on the web page. From one page there is an indication that Javascript is not present until the delay is over.

Does this sound Familiar? Previous experience or suggests would be most welcome. Thanks.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Safari 7.1.7

Might be due to a cookies, cache, extensions, or plug-ins issue.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.

Click: Remove All Website Data

Then delete the cache.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that didn't help, from the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

I'm actually writing this reply using Chrome because the "reply" link didn't work on Safari.

Safari has turned into a POS, just like Final Cut, Pages and other Apple Software. They are so intent on making us use our desktops like tablets that they are breaking everything and don't seem to give a care.

This page loaded in under a second on Chrome, it took almost 1 minute on Safari, that just to start loading, then another 30 seconds to load a broken page.

Yes I have followed the usual troubleshooting techniques, at this stage it almost once a week. I can't take this nonsensical amateur hour rubbish any longer. Apple have no respect for our time. Ask yourself, when did you ever have to jump through hoops with Chrome to get it to load pages?

It Just works is a joke.

Thanks for the well-detailed instructions. I had not used most of them in years! But in the end I have a cleaner machine and still my problem.

It has something to do with Javascript (taking forever to load). One important website for health records shows a warning when I open the page that Javascript is necessary for the site. After 1-2 Min the warning disappears and the page functions correctly.

But if I reload the page at any time it has to wait again for Javascript to show up. I have never fussed with Javascript so I a bit in the dark and reluctant to learn by trial and (mostly) error on Java implementations.

And again I much appreciate your fast reply and good attempt on this one.

Seriously, change to Chrome. I have been using it for a few days now and am only realising now how slow Safari really is.

Unfortunately as I said the quality of software from Apple is appalling at the moment, currently I'm also struggling with the mess the "new improved" Photos app has made with my iPhotos library which holds ten years worth of photos..

Apple are turning in a self deluded joke.

If safari is slow, we do some troubleshooting steps .

click on go > hold option key and don't release it > library > remove contents of caches , cookies , saved application state , logs , application support by selecting them ( Use key board short cut : command + A to select , then delete into trash : command + delete ) .

Delete safari caches : go to safari preferences > advanced > check the box > show develop menu in menu bar , then take your cursor on top menu bar click on develop > empty the caches .also clear all history & website data .

Finally restart from apple logo & empty the trash .

Verify if any third party add on are there , if found remove them. Apple articles are there you can follow :

If Safari doesn't load a page or webpage items are missing - Apple Support

If Safari is slow, stops responding, quits unexpectedly, or has other issues - Apple Support
