In response to a message while in Safari "Adobe flash player out of date. I downloaded the update and installed it. To my surprise it also installed "Mackeeper" and a web monitoring program "Premier Opinion". Has anyone experienced this? I deleted all this stuff! Any recommendations on alternative to flash player?

I updated it directly from the window that appeared with the message from adobe which was apparently false. I have uninstalled the programs. I like your recommendation to update from the Adobe site. Thanks!

The message was not from Adobe. It was a fake alert from the site you were on. The purpose was to trick you into clicking on the link so that malicious software could be loaded onto your computer. The only safe way to get and install flash player is to directly go to Adobe's site.

What is interesting is that some software was installed that appears to be commercial: "Mackeeper", "Premier Option", and an invitation for cloud storage that had a reference to Norton. That is the stuff I found. Also my Safari settings were changed to have Yahoo search as the homepage, and the default search engine to be Yahoo as opposed to my original selection - Google. I found that to be strange. I hope there is no malware that I cannot see.

What is the significance of the DNS server numbers you asked about?

Thanks very much for your help!

Even on the Adobe official site they include by default optional software downloads. I happen to be currently on my Windows computer and this is what Adobe offers me with the Flash Player. I can't remember what if anything is offered as an option for Apple computers. Notice also that the option is pre-selected. You must deselect all optional offerings made by Adobe.
